此画描写春夏之交时节一群服饰艳丽的贵族妇女在庭园里嬉戏、赏花的闲逸生活片断。图中六人，分成三组：右起画二人相对戏犬;中间画二人向左缓缓而行; 左边画近处有一贵妇立于一株花树前，右手捏着一只捕捉来的蝴蝶，侧身回头注视着跑来的小狗和白鹤，又似与远处另一贵妇打招呼。画中的妇女体态丰硕，面颊圆润，服饰艳丽，但人物终日里在赏花、捕蝶、戏犬、赏鹤中消磨岁月，确实显得百无聊赖，这就真实地反映了贵族妇女奢侈闲逸生活中的苦闷心境。

此《洛神赋图》为宋代摹本，保留着魏晋六朝的画风，最接近原作。此画是以魏国的杰出诗人曹植的名篇《洛神赋》为蓝本创作的。《洛神赋》以浪漫主义手法，描写曹植与洛水女神之间的爱情故事。顾恺之的《洛神赋图》发挥了高度的艺术想象力，富有诗意地表达了原作的意境。此长卷采用连环画的形式，随着环境的变化让曹植和洛神重复出现。原赋中对洛神的描写，如“翩若惊鸿，婉若游龙”，“仿佛兮若轻云之蔽月”，“皎若太阳升朝霞”等，以及对人物关系的描写，在画中都有生动入神的体现。此画用色凝重古朴，具有工笔重彩画的特色。作为衬托的山水树石均用线勾勒，而无皴擦，与画史所记载的“人大于山，水不容泛”的时代风格相吻合。
